Fast Food :(

Why Fast Food Is Bad For You
Many may know fast food is bad for you, but just exactly how bad is it. Many fast foods have lots of fats and calories and not much good stuff like vitamins and minerals. Fast food also play a large role in the diabetes epidemic. One of major contributing factors for the emerging diabetes epidemic is unhealthy diet full of junk food and fast food. If you eat a healthy diet, your body gets lots of of glucose, which helps insulin sensitivity. When you eat only junk food all the stress exerted on your metabolism affects your ability to use the  insulin properly. Since junk food and fast food has practically no fibre, its consumption also directly results in a spike in sugar levels. To make it worse, high junk food consumption leads to obesity, one of the main reasons for insulin resistance and development of diabetes.

Can You Make Your Own Pizza At Home?

YES!!!!  And its super easy!

For the crust use a pita, prepared crust, or Pillsbury (or other brand) pizza dough.  If using dough, follow the instructions on the container.

When your crust is ready cover with pizza sauce.  Depending on your preference you can use just a little or a little more!  Then add your toppings.  Today in class we used just pepperoni and shredded cheese.  Students came up with some other toppings that would work well too:  salami, ground beef, ham, bacon, chicken, onions, peppers, mushrooms, pineapple, olives, tomato, BBQ sauce, cheese sauce, and more!

When you have created your masterpiece, cook in the oven for  about 8-10 minutes at 400*F.  When crust is golden brown and cheese is melted, remove from the oven.  Allow to cool on the pan for a few minutes before cutting.

Enjoy!

Processed Food

Pros and Cons of Processed Food

Cons:
Processed foods include many added preservatives. Processed foods are prepared through guidance of physical and chemical treatment before being shipped off to stores around the world. Processed food companies add lots of salt to the foods they prepare. Processed food sound healthier than they are, they actually lack in nutrients and natural vitamins.

Pros:
Processed foods are quick and easy to prepare. Some but not all  processed foods do provide some added vitamins but they are harder to absorb. Most last longer and can make you feel more full for a longer amount of time.

Reading labels
Reading labels can be confusing. Most people don't know that
4 grams = 1 tablespoon. That`s why we have to be more informed about labels.
Do some research about the different serving values or look at the highs and lows
on the label. Try doing a dietary trade off, that means if you eat something with high sodium or sugar content then later eat something with low or none of that content. Start looking at labels and you will see a difference in your health.
